My dad felt zero guilt for passing the hemophilia gene to me and my sister. Then again, he did not realize he actually gave us hemophilia! When we were growing up we were told our boys could have problems but we would be fine because we are girls. That said, I think he would not feel guilty even if he were alive to know we both have hemophilia. I think he would be happy to “share” it with us and it would have been something we bonded over. I so wish he were alive to share this with.

What are “Obligate Carriers?”  If a man with hemophilia has a daughter, she will be an Obligate Carrier.  That means she will always get the mutation for hemophilia from her father. Some men feel guilty for giving their daughter the mutation which might make them a hemophiliac. Some don’t.  Do you have daughter?  Is she an obligate carrier? How do you feel about passing hemophilia to her?
