Encouraging nonjudgmental hemophilia questions

Jared Formalejo, who has hemophilia B, shares a presumptuous question he’s often gotten about his hemophilia treatments and what he wishes people would ask instead.

Transcript

I have an Instagram, and I often post my blood transfusions there, you know, for hemophilia awareness.

And often I have people ask me, “Jared, are you doing drugs? Are you OK?” Because it’s a blood transfusion, so it’s an uncommon thing on Instagram, I guess.

And, you know, I have friends that are concerned, and they see me do that. I guess sometimes they forget that I have hemophilia. So they end up thinking that I’m a junkie.

So I guess one thing that I wish they would ask me is that, “What are you doing?” first. Something as simple as that. Just don’t assume that I’m doing drugs.

I am not a part of the “Breaking Bad” universe. I am not a part of that world. I’m just infusing myself with factor IX. I’m just trying to have normal — I’m not elevating my consciousness.
