In observance of Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month, the integrated infusion therapy provider BioTek reMEDys is calling attention to the importance of safe treatment use and education among people with conditions such as hemophilia and von Willebrand disease.

Each March, the bleeding disorders community and supporters seek to heighten the visibility of such diseases and the more than 3 million U.S. residents they are thought to affect.

This year, BioTek reMEDys is aiming to improve awareness of the availability of therapies for bleeding disorders and how they’re used.

“As a specialty pharmacy organization focused on the highly specific needs of patients living with many rare and specific conditions, we are well aware of the critical importance of education — for patients, loved ones, caregivers and providers, as well as pharmacists, to make sure that those living with bleeding disorders get the specific treatments they need,” Chaitanya Gadde, founder and CEO of BioTek reMEDys, said in a company press release.

Replacement therapy is standard hemophilia treatment

Bleeding disorders are characterized by uncontrolled bleeding that occurs due to improper blood clotting. Those affected can experience serious health complications from small injuries such as simple cuts to surgeries or physical trauma.

In particular, hemophilia is marked by a dearth of specific clotting factor proteins that promote blood clotting and stop bleeding. While there is no cure, there are therapies that treat its symptoms, increase life expectancy, and reduce the risk of complications.

A standard hemophilia treatment is replacement therapy, which provides patients the clotting factors they lack. Such therapies are administered directly into the bloodstream via an into-the-vein or intravenous infusion or injection.

Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month is an opportunity and a reminder to advocate for education as a priority throughout the healthcare continuum as we work towards recognizing the challenging journey patients often have on the way to a correct diagnosis and treatment.

The multisite specialty pharmacy BioTek reMEDys, headquartered in Delaware, aims to bridge the gap between managed care, physicians, and patients by facilitating the authorization, procurement, and administration of infusions, as well as specialty medications.

“Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month is an opportunity and a reminder to advocate for education as a priority throughout the healthcare continuum as we work towards recognizing the challenging journey patients often have on the way to a correct diagnosis and treatment,” Gadde said.

To help patients and their family members gain disease knowledge and manage key aspects of care, the company offers patients treatment-specific education materials and a National Customer Support Center that’s accessible around the clock.

“By servicing very specific disease states, BioTek reMEDys’ expert team can maintain its focus on patient care — making sure that dosages and treatments are appropriate,” the release states.
